The Rules Nobody Taught is an Instagram reel idea that fits almost any coaching business. Read how a money coach for freelancers and a parenting coach for moms of teens approached it before you write your own.

The recipe

Topic: The rules that changed how you do the thing you teach
Take: Who should have taught you these and never did
Format: A seated talking head at home, big kinetic text on screen for each rule
The structure
  • Name who never taught you: Open by naming the person who should have explained this and never did, so it lands personal instead of generic.
  • Promise a finite list: Say the number out loud. A list they can actually finish is a list they will stay for.
  • State each rule flat: Give the rule in one plain line with no build-up, so the list keeps moving.
  • One line on why: Follow every rule with a single reason. That is what separates this from a tips post.
  • Plant your real POV: Somewhere in the middle, say the thing you actually believe that others in your field will not say.

Your Studio follows these beats when it writes your script.

Why it worked

The hook does two jobs in about four seconds. "6 rules that changed my life" promises a finite list you can actually finish, and "in case your parents didn't teach you, because mine didn't" turns a generic listicle into something personal. That second half is the part most people would cut, and it is the reason you stay, because it speaks to anyone who feels behind on something nobody sat them down and explained.

Every rule after that is one flat line plus one line on why, which is how six of them fit inside a minute without feeling rushed. She also plants a real POV in the middle, at rule three, that money advice aimed at women is all cutting and restriction when it should be about earning. A list without that is just tips.

Examples

A money coach for freelancers

6 money rules that changed my first year in business.

She states each rule flat, gives one line on why it works, and slips her real position on pricing into the middle of the list.

A parenting coach for moms of teens

5 rules that changed our mornings.

She names the person who never taught her any of it, then counts the rules off with one line of reasoning each.

Multiply it, one reel becomes your week

  • Newsletter: Every rule with the story behind how you learned it.
  • Thread: One rule per post, each with its one-line why.
  • Carousel: One rule per slide, blank and ready to save.
  • YouTube: The rule that cost you the most to learn, unpacked in full.
