Remix Recipe №4 · Medium-Mode

The Reclaim List

Reclaim a word that's been used as a put-down by showing the unglamorous receipts of embodying it yourself.

The recipe

Topic: A word your audience secretly aspires to embody but has been told not to.
Take: Show the unglamorous receipts of you doing it, worn as armor, not bragged about.
Format: Talking head intercut with b-roll of you actually doing each scrappy action.
The structure
  • Say the reclaim out loud: Open with 'Things I'm doing to [verb] the [word],' picking a put-down your audience secretly wants permission to own.
  • Show receipt one: Cut to b-roll of the first scrappy move you're actually making, with the real number or proof on screen.
  • Stack more receipts: Keep going with two or three more moves, each with a specific receipt, so it reads as proof and not affirmation.
  • Let it land as armor: Keep it matter-of-fact, never bragged about, so the reclaim feels like permission for them too.

Your Studio follows these beats when it writes your script.

Why it worked

The reel doesn't ask viewers to admire Kira. It hands them a mirror. She picks a word that's traditionally used as a put-down (audacity) and reclaims it as something worth building. Then she shows the unglamorous receipts (the newspaper drop, the 23 coffees, the podcast pitches). Two effects stack: cultural friction (a reclaim is more memetic than a flex) and receipts (the numbers make it real, not fluff). Together it gives the viewer permission to claim the same word for themselves, with a template for how to start.

Examples

A solo brand designer 3 months into freelancing

Things I'm doing to lean into the delulu.

She films writing 'booked through Q4' in her Notion with zero clients, charging $8K for the first time, and journaling her future studio's address, closing on the receipt: turned down a $3K project last week because it wasn't the right fit.

A solo course creator burned out from grinding

Things I'm doing to embrace the lazy.

She films closing the laptop at 2pm, automating her newsletter 8 weeks out, and cutting her offer from 4 tiers to 1, closing on the receipt: 3rd month in a row hitting $15K with half the hours.

Multiply it, one reel becomes your week

  • Newsletter: the longer story behind ONE of the scrappy moves. What scared you about it, what actually happened, what changed in you after.
  • Thread: each post is one scrappy action plus the receipt it earned, ending with the meta-point about what the reclaim actually means.
  • Carousel: each slide is one scrappy move with a photo of you doing it and the receipt captured in mono type at the bottom.
  • YouTube: film yourself doing ONE of the moves in real time, narrating the fear plus the receipts as they happen.
