The recipe
- Open with the tale of the tape: Name your 'opponent' with sports-announcer energy. Set it up like a title match.
- Start strong, then the first distraction hits: Show a promising start, then let the first derailment land. Play it straight.
- Recovery, near-win, another setback: Build the back-and-forth. Each round should feel like progress, then a stumble.
- Escalate the commentary: Raise the stakes with each round. The announcer gets more invested.
- The goal (or almost-goal): Build to the moment of triumph. Let the audience think it is over.
- One final twist: Pull the rug with one more distraction. End on a cliffhanger or a comedic extra-time call.

Why it worked
It frames an everyday struggle as a literal versus matchup, [You] vs [The Thing], and calls it like a hyped-up sports announcer working a live bout (here, football commentators, perfectly timed to the World Cup). The versus framing hands a boring task an actual opponent and stakes, so a two-minute chore becomes a title match worth watching. The over-the-top commentary makes the mismatch funny, the round-by-round setbacks and near-wins give it a real plot with a payoff, and the painfully specific beats make the right people say "this is literally me" and tag someone.
Examples
A productivity coach for ADHD entrepreneurs
“Back in the arena: one unread inbox versus a woman with big dreams and zero focus.”
She calls the match round by round, near-misses and all, and reframes the daily bout as a brain that needs systems, not shame.
A nutrition coach for shift workers
“Ladies and gentlemen, it's the 3pm sugar craving versus the woman who swore she'd meal prep.”
She narrates the showdown play by play and reframes willpower as a rigged match you win with a plan, not grit.
